Where I went #

Pla Pao Khao Khat Restaurant is located on a small lake about an hour north-west of Udon Thani town.

It is composed of 4 or 5 small bungalows set up above the banks of a small lake in the region.

It offers a wonder location to bring a small group of friends to enjoy food and chat in the tranquil surroundings.

What I liked #

  • After a big day of travelling, it was great to relax in a such a wonderful location.
  • The staff were extremely kind and would bend over backwards to help out.
  • All of this is nice, but critically, the food was great too.

What I ate #

I initially stopped off for a simple drink in the hot weather. While there, I asked if I could explore the bungalows and take some photos. They were more than happy and led me down to the lake.

While taking photos, a group who were already seated and eating invited me in to their bungalow. We had a very short broken conversation, before they offered some of the food set up already. After attempting to decline the request, I caved in and agreed to eat the stranger’s food. :)

It was outstanding. I had a few bites of steam fished, extremely well cooked, with a great natural taste (and a lot more flavour through the available sauces and toppings included). There were also some unknown, yet tasty assorted veggies and salad available too.
